Only boring people are bored

So it's my last week at my current job before I move to pastures new and I feel like this might be the longest week of my 32 year old life. I have read and re-read every single on-line retailers blog and searched the words 'yellow vintage dress' numerical times. I had to resort to writing this blog to give me something to do (just don't let anyone at work know).

I have the luxury of having 2 weeks off before I start my new job so I'm going to have that spring clean I've been telling myself to have.  However it'll be a 'transitional' clean instead seeing as though it's August and now the end of summer. This is where I hope to discover items I never knew I had, it'll be like going shopping in my own wardrobe without having to actually open my purse (see previous post re bank accounts for my full financial situ). I'm mostly looking forward to counting the number of shoes I own. I'm going to make a bet with myself and hazard a guess at 102 pairs. If i'm way over then I'm allowed to buy a new pair and if i'm way under then I'll think about chucking some away. Note the word 'think'.

What I will definitely do though is aim to wear every single pair of shoes I own over the next how ever many days and show them on here so you know I'm actually doing it. Same with the clothes, expect that I don't think there is enough time/days/years left for me to do that.

The word for this week is waiting. Waiting for Friday (my last day), waiting for a boy to text me (that'll be the title of my autobiography) and waiting for 5.30pm AKA wine o'clock avec Gemma B.

Hurry hurry time.

Interest rates

Hello. In the words of Take That...'I want you back for good'. I've been thinking of late how much I used to enjoy writing this blog and then all of a sudden it fell of a cliff in a soap opera kind of way, probably during a Christmas special. So I thought what the hell lets re-visit and write about stuff that happens. So here goes...

Well now I'm 32 and guess what? I'll still single. I think you would have seen on the news last week that I am indeed the most single person in the world. I shouldn't be proud of that but I kind of am although I'm sure my Mum isn't, she is literally desperate to see me married off not just to see have the wedding day etc but because over night she would become a millionaire. I have two bank accounts in my life and the one I use the most is the Bank of Mum. My account is always full and I never get charged interest, mostly because I'm not interested and I never seem to go into my overdraft. All in all I'm really happy with the level of service I receive.

In an ideal world I would have this bank account and another at the Bank of Husband, however these accounts are rare and you are often on a long waiting list (I've been on 32 years with ZERO sign of moving to the top anytime soon). Some seem to sign up/show interest and then get straight to the top of the list and have opened an account before you can say sort code. I mean how and why and when? I go from bank to bank trying to sign up but with no avail. I've even tried building societies but with no luck (they seem to be a bit too exclusive for me). I even tried foreign banks but the change of currency somewhat confuses the situation. Off shore accounts are the same, currency differences and I always feel these accounts are a bit dodgy.

The main obstacle I face always comes down to interest rates, they are either too high for me to sign up or the too low that the bank just doesn't meet my needs. What usually happens is that I go into the bank with the amount of money I want to put into a new account but the bank manager tells me it's not enough so I normally get the line 'I'm just not looking for any new customers right now' so with that I'm back out on the street again looking through my bank apps to find another one who will take my money. So as the wheel keeps turning I'm told by all who no me/meet me the following...'you'll find the right bank account when you least expect it' and 'the right one is just around the corner'.Well I've been round every single corner you can imagine and not found as much a post office account. So I guess I'll just have to remain patient and wait until I get to the top of the waiting list. Whatever will I do in my spare time....

Mum said don't talk to strangers

They say you should never speak to strangers but in this case you should ignore that and let me speak to you. I know it's been a while since I've posted in vintage dahling but as they say all good things come to those who wait. So please don't dump me for it and instead take it as I'm playing hard to get to get you to fall for me again 😉. As a mid year resolution I promise to blog as much as I can over the rest of this year. I promise!

I'm going to try and continue the 'wear a piece of vintage' each day and generally discuss the highs an lows of my everyday life in the wittiest way I can.

So let's recap on what's happened since the last post.....quite a lot actually...

1. Moved to Manchester (that's proper North to those reading this in London).

2. Turned 30...and then 31.

3. Joined Tinder (it works).

4. Had a lifestyle change (I no longer take four trains to work)

6. Keep Richard Branson in tropical islands.

All of the above will be revealed over the next while so keep looking out for my posts...it'll be worth the wait.

Onto today's proceedings...I wore matching shorts and kimono bought from

ASOS. I'm pretty much obsessed with co-ords at the moment and at the last count they totalled to 6! Hello my name is Laura and I'm a co-ordinateo'holic! I just bloody love 'em...here's what today's looked like...

Note the London landscape necklace from a the jewellery designer Mona Mara. I may not be in London but it'll always be close to my heart. All together now...maybe it's because I'm a Londoner that I love London Town!!!! Apples and pears, Barnet fair and all that!

It's travelling to my birth place that keeps Richard Branson in tropical islands and I cannot wait to tell you all about the quiet carriage on Friday. It's the one place where the scary beast inside me rears it's ugly head and tells people off for talking/using their mobile phone/laughing and just generally breathing. N.B Never ever ever ever ever travel with me in the quiet carriage. You'll end up chucking me out at Stoke on Trent with just a BLT and bottle of water to survive. Please don't do that to me...let me have a bottle of wine instead.

I shall fill you in on that dear reader when I board Rich's money making train come Friday. He owes me big time.

Now I'm 31 my idea of a good night is a glass of the good stuff and a good drama on Itv all whilst wearing my Pj and Duncan's. So I'm off to watch 'The Widower' (I thought I had bad luck with the fella's - this bloke is off the Richter scale). So if you are planning of joining me in watching said drama then do enjoy but just remember never never trust a man who enjoys wearing 3 quarter length trousers for fun because you'll end up in a car drugged up to your eyeballs!

Enjoy...xxx

1990 Mum Chic

What's this I hear you cry...an actual post from Vintage Dahling? Yes, yes it is. Is been a while but as they say absence makes the heart grow fonder. This post comes to you after a wonderful boozy lunch with the even more wonderful Genevieve in London Town.  I know its been a while but as they say all good things come to those who wait! For those who know we well, its been a while because I've been busy being a 'lady what lunches...sometimes boozy sometimes not'. In truth I have taken some time out from the ever demanding fashion industry to find my dream job. Its been a wonderfully relaxing few weeks with moments of sheer panic but all in all I'm happy girl with an exciting future....I hope.

In all honesty I'm blogging today because I'm wearing my new favourite vintage dress that is all red and denim like and very 1990's Mum at sports day! I love it. I bought it from a vintage market in Canterbury when I visited the bestie one weekend. It went very well with the half a bottle of pinot I shared with my favourite party girl.

The Pinot is here to stay this weekend as its the gorgeous Amie's 29th Birthday tomorrow...welcome to the old girls club my dear...its great fun...honesty! We are off out in Reading for an Hawaiian style night out. I've not been to Reading much this year....I hope it doesn't take me too long to get there by train!!! All I do know is that the weekend will be as ever defined by a bottle of the good stuff and a overly social Malbourgh light.

I'm sure next week I'll have some wine fuelled Hawaiian style photos to share with all and some more interesting news from the weekends antics. Its all vintage from here on out so keep your eye out for me!

Pinot Malibu Barbie

It has taken me 5 days and 2 pinot nights out to recover from last weekend and here's why...

Last Friday night was drinks in Liverpool Street with Claire and Rachel. I literally belong in a bar next to the Gerkin eyeing up city boys and drinking wine. To partake in said event I wore my absolute favourite vintage dress . It's from Rokit and I am head over heels for it. It's the right amount of preppy with a mix of pilgrim. Preppy pilgrim in you like.

During the evening I had a slight senior moment when talking of my plans for the rest of the year. I had to ask Claire what 'those moon parties are called in Thailand' because I would quite like to do one for my 30th! I'm not sure after having to ask said question if I should be allowed entry. Who ordered the OAP because she is well past her sell by date.

Saturday saw another celebration day for my Mum's birthday. The Saturday before had been at The Oxo Tower dahling. Yeah, I know how to luncheon. The 2nd round took us to the Ivy and then to see The Mousetrap for a bit of who dunnit. Agatha my dear you may not of been the best writer in the world but you certainly knew how to crete intrigue. The mouse got proper caught. N.B. My great use of language! Hypercritical of me perhaps but effective all the same.

My evening did not stop there. Once all rodents had been seen to I ventured to Oxford Street for a 30th birthday. On arrival I said the immortal words 'I'm def getting the tube home at 11 tonight. I'm exhausted'. Fast forward a few pivots and malbourgh lights and oh yes I'm still in Aqua at kicking out time of 1am. The drinking did continue though thereafter with a final head rest at 4am! I did ALL this in a barbie pink vintage dress from Traid and aqua blue shoes from Dune. Here I am looking like Pinot barbie. All I need now is Ken, my barbie jeep and miles of Malibu beach. Like totally!

This week has been tiring but I've still managed a lovely catch up and dinner with my ultimate bestie Becki and after work drinks with my favourite party girl and BFF Gen. Its my duty to Pinot to keep on going. We wouldn't want a slum in sales now would we.

This weekend I'm off to the races for a birthday celebration and here is a sneak preview of what I'm planning to wear.  Will update with any going on's in next weeks blog. One last note before I depart and get some much needed beauty sleep...the sun finally put his hat on and said hip hip hooray...I say Pims, Pinot and Prosecco all in the month of May.

Until we meet again xxx

2 is the magic number!

I love Thursday nights mostly because it means it'll be Friday in the morning but also because the trains are so much emptier. Londoners are out having a pre-weekend drink and I thank them for it because it means I get a seat on the train(s). In that same breath however I do wonder if at 29 I should be out having that same drink and not sat on a (less) busier train with other commuters.....mmmm maybe next week!

My age is going to run as a theme in today's post, not because I think 29 is old, more that I feel that 30 is ever approaching and there is still loads to be done before my age loses the '2'. Many questions enter my head on a daily basis. Some of them go a bit like this. Should I get a boyfriend now that partying has replaced any kind of loving in my life? Then that is rather presumptuous of me, I don't even know if I could even get one. Also those who know we well know I'm not conventional, I like to be unique, different and basically not the same so surely getting a boyfriend would go against my beliefs and if you don't have your beliefs you don't have nuffink!!. Having said that if Don Draper walked into the same bar I was drinking Pinot in and told me I had to marry him I would not disobey him. Hmmm I wonder if they sell boyfriends in Rokit?

Fashion is at a all time low today. As the week moves on my fashionability moves backwards so definitely no photo today. Call me Mr Raider call Mr Wrong call me insane call me Mr Vain cause I know what I want....and it's not to show you all how bad my fashion is today. I like to share with you my favourite vintage pieces mixed with high street not head to toe 'I was tried so I shoved this on'. Come back though this weekend because I have some proper winners to show you in the shape of some very vintage and fabulous dresses.

Until next time xxx

You should probably just call me Hugh Grant

It's been a few days since I posted and that's mainly because I have been considerably lazy enjoying my week off work. I did however in the days since my last post go to the Hardy-Field wedding in Bicester. It was a perfect day. I cried, I laughed, I danced, I drank a lot of wine and I was literally the LAST person to leave the wedding! You should never ever be the last person to leave the party unless you share the same surname as an actress named Kiera! The bride was quite simply born to be a bride and took my breath away when she walked down the aisle, the groom gave an amazing heart felt speech which made tears roll down my face and the bridesmaids looked like 1950's Hollywood starlets. The rain held off and although it was a little cold it didn't matter because most of us remembered our alcohol jackets. You've got to love a wine windbreaker!

I wore a blue vintage maxi dress from Rokit, a vintage gold belt and a Lulu Guinness charm necklace all worn with my new blonde locks. I'm now 3 weddings down with 2 more to go. The next wedding is in 4 weeks time when Winner's gets married and I'll have a new accessory to go with my vintage dress for that special day!

I've just finished watching 'The Iron Lady' and love her or hate her Margaret Thatcher was an incredibly strong women who like me has a passion for pearls, and in my book that means she rocks.

Tomorrow I'm back at work and have a serious case of the blues. Although the thought of commuting again feels me with fear it does mean that I can get my vintage on again and how I have missed it so. There are only so many ways you can wear leggings and a t-shirt. I need to get my fashion face back on.

Until tomorrow xxx
